Jeep has officially revealed its revised Compass off-roader model for 2011 at the Detroit motor show.

The facelifted model features include a new bonnet with "a subtle power bulge", a revised front grille and headlights and plastic body cladding "to fend off debris when driving in challenging weather conditions". The changes give the car the look of Jeep’s larger Grand Cherokee.

Steering and suspension components have also been modified, and hill-start assist and side-curtain airbags added as standard.

A front-wheel-drive variant is offered alongside two all-wheel drive versions (Freedom Drive I and Freedom Drive II, which adds low-range gearing), with two petrol engines to choose from: a 2.0-litre with 156bhp or a 2.4-litre unit with 170bhp, both of which are coupled to a five-speed manual or a CVT gearbox.

2012 The Jeep Compass Rallye debuted at the same time as the Jeep Rescue; this concept car shared similar dimensions, but was styled more like the Liberty, and was intended to have a rally-car image, that was, fast dirt off-roading rather than slow rock-climbing and water-traversing.

The Compass styling was intended to look athletic and sleek, so that while it shared the same basic platform as the Patriot, it did look like a completely different chassis. Like the Patriot, it had electronic four wheel drive and off-road components.

We all know how annoying it is when you get a flat tire while you are driving. This always seems to happen when you are in a hurry and you have no spare with you because you have no space in your car to accommodate one. This is why the Jeep Compass has an allocated space in the floor of the car, underneath a removable panel. So the tire will be hidden, but you know where to find it should you need it. So there's no more waiting on that person to bring you a tire in order for you to get back on the road, just pop it on and you're A for away

Jeep’s Chinese range is comprised of the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Patriot and Compass

Jeep CEO Mike Manley travelled to China last Wednesday to negotiate the local production of Jeep models with Guangzhou Automobile Group Co Ltd., which already has a joint venture with Fiat.

“Fiat has a very strong partner there, so we will be discussing various options,” said Manley who is also Fiat Group’s head of marketing in Asia. “If I can localize Jeep you are going to see many multiples of what we sell today.”

Right now Jeep’s Chinese range is comprised of the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Patriot and Compass. Last year, Jeep sold 11,646 units in the country, all imported.

“For us to grow in China, you have to produce. The import duties are pretty high when you bring vehicles in,” commented Manley. He added that the Compass, Patriot and Wrangler would be the first Jeep to produce locally, if he does finalize the deal with Guangzhou Automobile.

“Our vehicles really play in the premium segment in China. The market is just too big an opportunity not to take advantage of it on a local manufacturing basis.”

Manley estimates that if the deal goes through and gets approval by the authorities Jeep could begin local production in 18-24 months. Moreover, Manley said the company plans to add a fourth model in 2013 that will be based on a front-wheel drive Fiat platform and slot in below the Compass and Patriot in Jeep’s line-up.

The first spot is named "Never Adapt" the Jeep Wrangler, Grand Cherokee and Compass

Jeep is one of the two mainstream brands within the Fiat Group – Chrysler LLC alliance (the other one being Alfa Romeo) that are destined to play a major global role in the company's growth plans for the future.

To mark Jeep's renewed lineup in Italy, the automaker is launching a new TV campaign under the tagline "Don’t' adapt to conventions". The first spot is named "Never Adapt" and it will begin airing on Italian television channels on Sunday, October 9.

The spot brings together the Jeep Wrangler, Grand Cherokee and Compass while showing several laid back young people with the voiceover saying, "We do not adapt to conventions and that's why we feel alive".

The same commercial will gradually make its way into other European countries while the Fiat Group is also preparing individual ads for each Jeep model.
